CIR: Labour Party motion historic, undermines Zionist efforts to whitewash occupation

Council on International Relations – Palestine welcomed backing a motion in Labour conference to demand sanctions against Israel for its illegal actions under international law, to stop the UK’s arms trade with Israel, and end trade with illegal settlements on occupied Palestinian territory.

The council said in a statement issued, Monday, that this motion is a pivotal shift in the history of Britain’s relationship with the Palestinian issue, especially that it comes from a major party that may form the government in the coming period.

Regarding the tireless Zionist efforts to distort the Palestinians, the council said that these attempts will not succeed in changing the facts and the Labour Party’s recent motion is the best evidence.

“We welcome this motion, and we thank everyone who voted yes, and we consider the motion a significant addition to the international consensus that is forming and sees that “Israel” is practicing apartheid that must be fought”, the CIR added.

The Council called on all British parties to take the same decisions that are in line with international law and the will of free peoples, and that express solidarity with the Palestinian people in the face of the occupation and its crimes.

Labour conference has backed a motion for the party to demand sanctions against Israel for its illegal actions under international law, to stop the UK’s arms trade with “Israel”, and end trade with illegal settlements on occupied Palestinian territory.

CIR welcomes WHO rejecting of Israeli proposal to cancel item on health situation in Palestine

Council on International Relations – Palestine (CIR) welcomed World Health Organization Executive Council rejection of a proposal submitted by the Israeli occupation to cancel an item entitled “the health situation in the Occupied Palestinian lands and Occupied Syrian Golan” from the agenda of the upcoming WHO session.

The decision thwarted, the CIR said in a statement Thursday, the Israeli attempt to evade its responsibilities, including the health responsibility, as an occupying power.

The Council thanked the member states that voted against the draft resolution, stressing the importance of the role of international organizations in confronting this occupation and its attempts to exterminate the Palestinian people by all means, including leaving it vulnerable to a deadly epidemic.

The Council called on international organizations worldwide to put pressure on the Israeli occupation to force it to assume its responsibilities toward the Palestinian people and supply it with all its health needs. This includes, the CIR added, the coronavirus vaccination, especially at this time when the Palestinian territories are exposed to deadly attacks from the epidemic in light of the limited capabilities.

World Health Organization Executive Council rejected a proposal submitted by the Israeli occupation to cancel an item entitled “the health situation in the Occupied Palestinian lands and Occupied Syrian Golan” from the agenda of the upcoming WHO session. The proposal failed to get the majority votes with 15 countries opposing it.

CIR: “Israel” faces demographic threat by bringing in non-Jewish immigrants

The Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics revealed that the number of Jewish immigrants to “Israel” over the course of 2020 hit a record low, with only 33.8% of the usual number of new immigrants.

For the first time in Israeli history, the Jewish population of the country has dropped below 74 percent, according to the IPC.

Dr. Basem Naim, head of Council on International Relations – Palestine said that these data indicate that the occupation state is exploiting the claim that any Jew around the world has the right to immigrate to the “Promised Land”, which is unfortunately supported by the international community unlawfully, to confront the demographic threat that threatens it by bringing non-Jewish immigrants to Palestine, at a time when the occupation expels Palestinians from their lands, demolishes their homes, and deprives them of their basic rights.

This behavior, Naeem indicated, not only confirms the racism and fascism of this entity and its creed, but rather “Israel” uses religious arguments to pass colonial political projects and consolidate its control over Palestinian land.

Naim noted that these facts undermine the idea that many in the international community, especially in the West, rely on regarding the right of Jews around the world to immigrate to Palestine, at a time when the international community is unable to enforce international legitimacy by enabling the Palestinians to return to their homes from which they were forcibly displaced. Head of the CIR called on the international community to reconsider its stances towards the historical injustice that befalls the Palestinian people.

CIR: US insists on falsifying history, violating international laws

Council on International Relations – Palestine (CIR) said that the United States’ allowing its Jerusalem-born to put “Israel” as passport birthplace is a flagrant violation of international laws.

In a statement issued Sunday, the CIR stated that the United States insists on falsifying history and reality, and implementing the Deal of the Century that completely wipes out the rights of the Palestinians.

“Such hostile steps against the Palestinian people will neither bring stability nor security to the region, it will instead increase tension and ignite the conflict”, the Council affirmed.

The CIR added that the American steps this time come in light of the Arab normalization agreements with the occupation state, which have increased the United States and the occupation only to further their hostility and steps aimed at liquidating the Palestinian issue.

The United States will allow US citizens born in Jerusalem to list “Israel” as their place of birth on passports and other documents, according to a new policy announced last Thursday.

CIR calls on UN to obligate Israel to international resolutions or cancel membership

On its 75th anniversary,
CIR calls on UN to obligate Israel to international resolutions or cancel membership

Council on International Relations – Palestine congratulated the United Nations on the occasion of its 75th anniversary, noting its important role in spreading international peace and security throughout these years.

The council said in a statement issued Wednesday: Although the organization has achieved many achievements at the level of international peace and security around the world, it has failed to achieve justice and the rule of law, for which the organization was founded at the San Francisco conference in 1945, especially in the Palestinian issue.

The Palestinian people have been subjected to Israeli terrorism and aggression for seven decades, and the organization has not been able to protect them or help them get rid of the occupation and achieve their goal of freedom and independence, the CIR added.

The Council added that the UN is still required to shoulder its responsibilities towards the decades-old issue of the Palestinian people, and it must work diligently until the Palestinian people obtain their full rights.

The Council called on the organization to oblige “Israel” to abide by the international resolutions or to cancel its membership.

The Council indicated that “Israel” Is still violating the conditions stated in the decision to accept it as a member of the United Nations, namely the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and the return of Palestinian refugees to their homes from which they were forcibly displaced.

The CIR warned that the continuation of the Zionist occupation and terrorism is one of the most important causes of instability and chaos in the region.

Stability and development will not be achieved without ending the occupation and empowering the Palestinian people with their basic rights, foremost among which is their right to independence and self-determination, the most important foundations of the organization’s philosophy, the Gaza-based body added.

The United Nations celebrates its seventy-fifth anniversary, at a time when the world is witnessing great turmoil that is exacerbated by an unprecedented global health crisis, and unresolved issues, foremost of which is the Palestinian issue.

CIR welcomes UNESCO decisions on Palestine, thanks countries voted in favor

Council on International Relations welcomed the two decisions on Palestine issued unanimously by the Executive Council of the “UNESCO” without any amendments.

The Council said in a statement issued Tuesday that the members ’unanimous vote on the two resolutions is an affirmation of the isolation of the occupation and the erosion of international support for it in light of its repeated violations of international law.

The Council thanked the Arab countries that submitted the draft resolutions, noting that this honorable position is the expected one to counter the Zionist projects.

The CIR called on UNESCO to continue to resist American and Israeli pressure, to continue to stand by international law and not to allow the occupying power to take advantage of global crises to legalize the theft of Palestinian lands and antiquities.

UNESCO’s Executive Committee adopted Monday two resolutions on Palestine. Item 24 stated that All actions taken by Israel which have altered or purport to alter the character and status of Jerusalem are null and void and must be rescinded forthwith. The same item deeply deplores the ongoing military development around the Gaza Strip and their heavy toll of civilian casualties and reaffirms that the two Palestinian sites of Al-Haram Al-Ibrahimi and the Bilal Ibn Rabah Mosque are an integral part of the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

In item 25, UNESCO shows deep concern about the Israeli censorship of the Palestinian curricula of schools and universities in East Jerusalem and Deeply regrets the destruction by the Israeli authorities of schools.

CIR: UNRWA should redouble efforts to confront schemes aim to liquidate agency

Council of International Relations – Palestine (CIR) said that UNRWA should redouble its efforts to confront schemes aim to liquidate the agency, expressing its readiness to cooperate with the new Commissioner-General in facing these schemes.

In a congratulatory letter sent by the head of CIR to the new UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini, Naim urged Lazzarini to cooperate with all relevant parties, inside and outside Palestine, to overcome any difficulties so that “we can get this crisis over and behind, and guarantee the refugees a decent life, until their dream of return and compensation is fulfilled”.

“You must be aware that the UNRWA has been a direct target of many parties, foremost of which is the Israeli occupation with unlimited support from the United States of America, in a desperate attempt to write off the refugee issue by undermining the UNRWA’s work. This is why we all, with the UNRWA administration at the forefront, have to double efforts to confront this targeting”, Naim said in the letter.

Naim noted to the biggest contrived financial crisis the Agency is going through since its foundation in an attempt to abort its ability to provide services to more than five million Palestinian refugees. He said: “This crisis comes in the midst of sensitive and dangerous conditions, where the region is beset by internal wars and inter-conflicts, which affected everyone, especially the Palestinian refugees, the last of which was Corona pandemic, which brought the world to an unprecedented state of lockdown.”

The CIR head mentioned in particular the Gaza Strip, in which 2 million people live, 70% of whom are refugees under the supervision of the Agency, has been living under an Israeli blockade for more than 14 years that nearly destroyed all basics of having a normal human life especially on the health, social and economic levels.

He said: “The Gaza Strip is in urgent need for support from all to protect it from the worst-case scenario, especially in light of the Corona pandemic. UNRWA can play an important and effective role in this respect.”

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) announced in a press release last month that, following official communication by the office of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and consultations with the Agency’s Advisory Commission, Philippe Lazzarini has been appointed as its new Commissioner-General (CG).

CIR condemns Germany position supporting Israeli war crimes in ICC

Council on International Relations condemned the German position, that expressed support for “Israel” in the International Criminal Court and Germany’s claim that the court’s jurisdiction did not extend to the Palestinian territories.

The Council said in a statement Thursday, that the position of Germany and other European countries indicate a significant inequity in the balance of justice, democracy and humanity those countries claim to protect and, at the same time, seek to protect Israeli war criminals.

The Council affirmed that Palestine has been a member of the International Criminal Court for five years and has fulfilled the conditions for membership in this organization.

The Council noted that the United Nations recognized Palestine as an observer. “Palestine is an existing state, and is eligible to authorize the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to investigate “Israel’s” criminal acts”, the CIR said.

The Council called on Germany and all member states of the Pre-Trial Chamber of the Criminal Court to work to protect peoples from war criminals and to give their opinion to the Prosecutor on the authority of the court to operate in Palestine.

Brazil, Hungary, Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic and Australia have asked the court to let them file “amicus brief” opinions on the case, ICC records show.

Some, including Germany, said they would argue the court’s jurisdiction did not extend to the Palestinian territories.

CIR hails UN list of firms linked to Israeli settlements

Council on International Relations – Palestine (CIR) hailed the United Nations Human Rights Office report, which lists firms linked to illegal Israeli settlements.

The Council said in a statement Thursday that releasing this list comes after a long wait and a great effort by the human rights institutions that have worked tirelessly to hold these firms complicit in war crimes.

The Council stressed that adherence to international law is the best response to the attempts of the United States and the Israeli occupation in violation of this law and human rights and their pursuit to enforce the law of the jungle.

This step, according to the CIR, indicates the importance of the United Nations role in facing apartheid regimes and holding perpetrators of war crimes and human rights violations accountable and reminds us of the United Nations’ oversight role in eliminating apartheid in South Africa.

The Council stressed that publishing the list is a strong message to all firms complicit in human rights violations and benefiting from the apartheid regime, that they should not enjoy any immunity under such an unjust system.

In its statement, the Council called on the United Nations to implement what was stated in resolution 31/36 and not to submit to any pressure from any party, notably the Israeli occupation, and even to update this list whenever the need arises.

The UN body said it identified 112 business entities – 94 based in “Israel” and 18 in six other countries – which it has reasonable grounds to conclude have ties with Israeli settlements, which are considered illegal under international law.

CIR: whilst supporting Israeli terrorism, EU fights Palestinian civil organizations with new conditions

Council on International Relations – Palestine said that the new conditions by the European Union for funding Palestinian civil society organizations are inconsistent with international laws.

The Council indicated in a statement issued Wednesday that these conditions are consistent with the occupation narrative, which labels the Palestinian people as terrorism because of their resistance, steadfastness, and adherence to their legitimate rights.

The council considered the new conditions a restriction on the Palestinian people, who are suffering under long-term military occupation, and who have the right to struggle to gain their independence and freedom from this occupation under international law and United Nations resolutions.

The Council accused the European Union of double standards.

“While strangling the Palestinian people under the pretext of fighting terrorism, the EU participates in supporting state terrorism practiced by “Israel” and finances its violations of human rights. The EU has funded Israeli organizations that practice organized terrorism and violate the rights of the Palestinian people, with $ 872 million, in Horizon 2020 project”, the CIR explained.

The Council said that the EU practices political hypocrisy and is subject to the pressure of the Zionist lobby in dealing with the Israeli occupation, as it considers the occupation and settlement illegal and at the same time funds Israeli institutions that contribute to the strengthening of settlements and occupation.

It called on the European Union to reconsider these conditions, and even to hold European officials accountable for funding the occupation organizations that violate international law.

“We call on the EU to strengthen support for our Palestinian people at all political, legal and financial levels, to achieve their aspirations for freedom and independence, otherwise the alternative would be continued chaos, instability and the disappearance of any opportunity to resolve the conflict permanently.

The European Union informed the Palestinian civil organizations by setting new conditions to continue their funding. Those conditions include labelling Palestinian parties and organizations on the list of terrorism and checking the names of the beneficiaries of the services provided by these institutions.
